How to Renew Your NDIS Registration in 5 Easy Steps

How to Renew Your NDIS Registration in 5 Easy Steps | Lofa Consulting Blog

Renewal of your NDIS registration can be daunting if there is no clearly defined process. For your convenience, we’ve put up a brief guide on how to prepare for the NDIS provider registration or renewal process. This guide details the 5 steps necessary to register/renew as an NDIS provider in accordance with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission’s criteria (NDIS Commission).

Step 1 Submit an Application for Renewal

As an NDIS provider, you will need to log in to the NDIS portal and click on “My Registration” to start the process. Then, up to six months before your renewal date, you must file a renewal application that includes your provider information and a Self-Assessment.

Step 2 Update Your Current Scope Of Audit

Audit is the next step after registering or renewing as an NDIS provider. You must hire an accredited quality auditor or you can use our auditor referral program.  To quote for services, an auditor will use the ‘initial scope of audit’ document. Auditors can discuss your individual needs and situations to find the best return.

The scope of audit you get after submitting your online application summarizes your organization’s registration requirements. Your business must demonstrate compliance with NDIS Practice Standards to be eligible for a ‘verification’ or ‘certification’ audit.

Once the audit scope is confirmed, the audit will commence. They will also look at how a provider implements guidelines and standards while providing assistance and services. This will include both evidence and feedback from NDIS participants and other stakeholders.

Step 3 Assessment

The auditor will report the results to the NDIS Commission via an online portal. Your application will then be evaluated by the NDIS Commission. You and your company’s main staff will be evaluated for their competence based on the audit results you provide them with. Every suitability assessment is unique. The NDIS Commission will consider the results of the suitability assessment when deciding whether to renew an NDIS Provider.

Step 4 Knowing the result of your application

For a successful application, you will receive a certificate of registration if your application is approved. This covers the support and service categories for which you are registered, the duration of your registration, and any limitations placed on your registration. You must adhere to all registration requirements, including the NDIS Practice Standards and Code of Conduct.

If your application is denied, the NDIS Commission will inform you of the reason. Three months after the decision, you can ask for another look. If your application is denied, you have the option of appealing to the Administrative Appeals Tribunal for a second opinion.

Step 5 Continuous Compliance

Congratulations on completing the NDIS registration process successfully! Although there are no longer any new compliance requirements, there are still ongoing compliance that must be met, such as:

  • Adherence to the NDIS Practice Standards and registration requirements
  • Adherence to the NDIS Code of Conduct
  • Having an internal complaints management and resolution structure in place, as well as providing assistance to participants who wish to file a complaint
  • Having an in-house incident management system and reporting reportable issues to the NDIS Commission
  • Making sure that all employees are screened by a nationwide worker screening program
  • The new behavior support requirements have to be met (if applicable)

The NDIS Commission is responsible for monitoring registered NDIS providers to ensure they are complying with registration criteria and has the authority to suspend or revoke registration.
